Steve Lazarides
British photographer, publisher and curator whose archive documents Banksy’s work from 1997 to 2008.
Steve Lazarides grew up in Bristol and studied photography at Newcastle Polytechnic. In 1997, working as a photographer for the magazine Sleazenation, he was commissioned to photograph Banksy, and went on to work with him for about eleven years — first as his photographer, then as his agent and dealer — until around 2008.
He co-founded the print publisher Pictures on Walls in 2001 and opened his first gallery on Greek Street in Soho, London, in 2004. In 2018 he co-founded Lazinc in Mayfair, leaving in 2019 to return to photography and publishing. His book Banksy Captured, drawn from his archive of that period, was published in 2019.
His editions reproduce photographs from that archive. Balloon Fight (2020) is Lazarides’s photograph of Banksy’s Girl with Balloon, UV printed with a screen-printed balloon on OSB board, numbered out of 88 and signed, numbered and stamped by Steve Lazarides.
